Dave "the home of witty banter" is the new TV channel for boys, no girls allowed
BBC News reports that the UKTV G2 channel that shows cult comedy, game shows and all things manly, is now going to be called Dave. Why Dave? Because "everyone knows a bloke called Dave". God, those guys are cle-ver. The channel will show TV programs like Top Gear, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, and Ray Mears’ Extreme Survival, and a bunch of other shows that the Dave executives agree no woman would ever want to watch. (Mostly because they're too busy cleaning and watching chick flicks.)
Dave's head, Steve North, says that," Changing the channel name to Dave enables us to create a strong and noisy personality for the channel that immediately aligns us with our core 16-34 male audience." Yes, as opposed to being "weak" and "quiet" and in other words "feminine". Perhaps even worse than the concept, is Dave's strapline of "The home for witty banter". What the hell is that supposed to mean? And since when is "witty banter" masculine? Have you not seen Gilmore Girls?! Gosh! I don't understand having gender specific TV channels, as Lifetime and Oxygen are just as stereotypical as Dave. There better not be an Ashley or Sarah TV channel in the works because that will just make me puke.
