Keris Stainton on the TV women we love...
Go on. Go on. Go on, go on, go on, go on, go on.
Will ya have a cup of tea? Ya will, ya will, ya will, ya will, ya will, ya will.
Poor Mrs Doyle. Poor put upon Mrs Doyle! Brilliantly brought to life by Pauline McLynn, Mrs Doyle is psychotic about taking care of Fathers Ted, Dougal and Jack. My favourite Mrs Doyle moment is when Father Ted gets up and goes downstairs in the middle of the night, only to be started by Mrs Doyle, waiting in the dark to see if he wants a cup of tea. (That and when she asks Ted if Pat Mustard can put his massive tool in her box ... it's a wrench and a toolbox, of course.)
There's no side to her, as they say. When a visiting priest responds to her requests with sarcasm, she simply cannot understand.
She's devoted to her job, to the priests and to tea. You just can't argue with that, can you.
Keris co-edits Shiny Media’s fabulous women’s fiction blog, Trashionista and contributes to TV Scoop, The Bag Lady and Bridalwave. She knows all the words to 'My Lovely Horse'.
