Number of women drinking and driving is reportedly on the rise

23279007.jpgThe Liberal Democrats have discovered a 58 per cent rise in drink or drugs-driving convictions for women between 1995 and 2004. They claim this could be because anti drunk driving ads are mainly targeting men, and have "little effect" on women. The figure of women under 30 who were found guilty for driving under the influence has increase by nearly 47% from 2,636 in 1995 to 3,863 in 2004. The Liberal Democrats’ transport spokesman, Alistair Carmichael, says that “instead of focusing drink-driving campaigns only on men, women also need to be targeted”.

This announcement came shortly after the government started to make noise of lowering the drink-drive limit from 80mg per 100ml of blood to 50mg, making the UK's standards the same as the European Union countries' limit.
