USA Today reports that tonight, nearly 400 women are holding house parties to watch the Democratic presidential candidates debate, which is twice as many parties as women had for Barack Obama on June 24. Clinton's attempts at reaching out to women voters is being labelled as being "unprecedented", as she has six full-time staffers specifically focused on women's outreach. (Comparatively, John Edwards only has one.) Reaching out to young, single women is a tremendous hurdle that all presidential candidates face, as Women's Voices, Women Vote found that "more than 18 million single women are eligible to vote but unregistered. In 2004, the group said, almost 5 million were registered but didn't vote".
Clinton plans to focus on single women in the fall, and as only %39 of 18-29-year-olds support her, that's probably a good idea.
