TV Heroes: Carrie Bradshaw

carriebradshaw.jpgI'm embarrassed to admit that I was a real latecomer to Sex and the City. I think they were up to about the third season by the time I caught on (Charlotte's wedding to Trey was the first one I saw). I borrowed the box sets of the first two series and spent a blissful weekend watching episode after episode with a bottle of fake Bailey's.

I fell in love - and remain in love - with all four of the Sex and the City women and I could have picked any of them as this week's hero, but I had to choose Carrie, didn't I? I *am* a writer.

How I wish I could sit at the window of my New York apartment writing things like

"Should women ever just shut the f*ck up?"

"Are the men of today less threatened by a woman's power or are they just acting?"

and getting paid enough to keep myself in Manolos.

Carrie's cute. She's funny. She's smart. And then there are the clothes, of course. Sometimes, granted, she looks ridiculous, but sometimes she just looks enviably fantastic. I know a lot of women disapproved of Carrie's dysfunctional relationship with Big, but I loved them together. Yes, he had issues, but so did Carrie and I was so glad they ended up together.

Unlike the relationship with Big, I think the thing about Carrie that endears her to women is her relationship with her friends. They genuinely love and care for one another. The don't judge (mostly) and they're always entirely supportive. Plus after who knows how many years of friendship, they always had great fun together.

The fashion designer insists Carrie strut in her catwalk show with the line, "It's a mix of New York and style and no-one is more New York or has more style than you." I love New York and I love Carrie Bradshaw.

Keris co-edits Shiny Media’s fabulous women’s fiction blog, Trashionista and contributes to TV Scoop, The Bag Lady and Bridalwave. She can't wait for the Sex and the City film.
