More innocent women were found stabbed to death in the Gaza Strip this past weekend. Three sisters, 16-year-old Nahed Hija and her sisters, 19-year-old Suha and 22-year-old Lina, died from multiple stab wounds, and Hamdi Shakkour of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights says that he suspects their death was the result of "honor killings". Honor crimes/killings are when "women are murdered by male relatives because of suspected intimate relations - not necessarily sex - outside of marriage" and at least 12 women were killed in honor crimes on the West Bank and Gaza Strip this year.
However, even worse than the crimes themselves is the light punishment the murderers face. Apparently most honor killers only face sentences of a few years, while others who are convicted for murder can be punishable by death.
