Moira Cameron, the Tower of London's first female Beefeater, has got herself a brand new £1400 uniform! Cameron became the first female Beefeater this past January, and tried on her new uniform for her new post as a Yeoman Warder in September. A former army senior NCO, Cameron is the only woman to become a Yeoman Warder in 522 years, and says: "I'm sure I'll have no problems because I'm a woman."
However, having a Beefeater with a vagina working at the Tower is apparently ruining tradition, and "isn't right"....
John from Tendring has said: "Thats 500+ years of tradition gone and a large tailors bill to show for it." Rose Howard from Milton Keynes also thinks Moira is ruining tradition: "Just does not look right,why can't we hang on to our traditions, what is the point of this 'updating'... because they can... but whenever did a woman fit into the history of the Beefeaters at the Tower. That is what it is all about, it's not an ordinary day job."
Should I remind everyone that it was also a tradition at The Tower to behead people? Rose? John? Is that you volunteering?
