katie_couricnews.JPGThe name Katie Couric might not mean much in Britain, but in the US she is a big name in news reporting. On September of last year she historically became the first woman to solo-anchor the weekday evening news on one of the big 3 US networks. But before we all get a bit too pleased at this long-overdue attempt at sexual equality in an American newsroom, her ratings have been little short of disastrous. As of the beginning of May the viewership for her show, the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, was the lowest the station had endured since at least 1987. Eek.

But now as even Katie looks to have given up the fight, TMZ is reporting that a divorced women’s website is coming to her rescue. Debbie Nigro, the Chief Executive Girlfriend of www.firstwivesworld.com has tried to rally some sister support for the flailing Couric with the following short video.

Debbie talks to the all "the other women navigating life solo" (Couric’s husband died in 1998) to support her, calculating that if the estimated 40 million divorced women in the US tuned in, her numbers would soon swell. Let’s hope it makes the intended impact.
