Keris Stainton on the TV women we love...
Spaced's Daisy Steiner wants to be a writer, but she doesn't actually enjoy writing. She has lots of ideas, but would rather nap than actually expand on any of them.
She meets Tim Bisley and - once they've established he's not a drug dealer - they end up pretending to be a couple in order to rent a flat specified "professional couple only".
Played by the incredible Jessica Hynes (formerly Stevenson), Daisy is funny and bright as well as being awkward and insecure (at the end of a job interview with a feminist magazine - the brilliantly named Flaps - Daisy, both at a loss for how to end the meeting and stoned, says "Girl Power!" and does the victory sign).
Bullied and patronised by her bitchy best friend, Twist ("Don't you look nice? Bit of a midriff show. Big's in this season. Good for you.") Daisy finds a real friendship with Tim, although it never goes any further (or does it?).
I love Spaced and I particularly love Daisy. I would like to be Lorelei Gilmore, but I'm much more like Daisy Steiner and that's okay too.
Daisy: We live in a fantasy world, Tim. We've just constructed this fake utopia where y'know we never get old and never have to face the responsibilities of adulthood. We're just stretching our childhoods out as far as they can go.
Tim: Yeah, I know. We're lucky aren't we?
