A while back we reported on a hotel that features "women only" floors, to help women travellers feel safe, and at the time I thought it was a bad ideas, because as Jessica Valenti put it, "The idea of separating women out instead of trying to improve the world we're already in doesn't seem like much of a solution." As some of my family is visiting London, I was looking at the Rubens at the Palace Hotel online, and found that they had an entire "Single Female Traveller" section dedicated to make female travellers feel comfortable.
I have to admit, if I were travelling to London by myself, some of their features like: "Escort to the room, and also from your car if you are driving" and "Increased in-room security: double locks, spy holes and door chains" don't sound that bad, and I can't lie and say I wouldn't necessarily appreciate that if I were by myself. However, with the good comes the bad as they also offer rooms with "High performance hair dryer", "Choice of waffle or fluffy towelling robes"," and a "Improved lighting in bathroom and bedroom to make it easy to apply make up".
What do you think of hotels making special accommodations for "single female travellers"?
