The Metro has reported today that -gasp!- some women like to watch porn! Yes, it's true! Apparently the internet makes it easier for women to find porn (shocking, I know) and in 2006 the number of women downloading internet porn soared up to 1.4million. But, although the number has risen, I find the women's reasoning for looking at porn interesting, if not sometimes hilarious.
Firstly, one woman says that she reads the porn mag For Women, because it helps "as a prelude for sex", helps get her in the mood for a date, and if a date goes badly, "I still have them when I get home". Likewise, Kelly from Brighton says that, "Most men can get an erection pretty quickly while women prefer to be seduced, romanced and, if we're lucky, even get a bit of foreplay." If we're lucky?? Kelly also adds, "I like to be turned on first - porn sometimes helps." What about just telling your boyfriend you need more foreplay?
The experts claim the rise in women looking at porn is because women have become more "empowered" (whatever that means), "know that an orgasm is our right", and that we no longer have to have sex with our husbands just to "keep them happy". However, from listening to what these women say, I think that while some women watch porn to entertain themselves whilst they're in a "dry spell", some women use it as a way of spicing up their sex life without actually having to tell their partner that they need more in bed. Which is easier? Ordering a porn flick online, or telling your boyfriend, "Yeah...that's not my clitoris."?
This rise in porn could also be attributed to the Rise Of Raunch Culture, which I could go on, and on, and on about...but won't. It just makes me wonder why 1.4million women are downloading porn, while the rest of us are trying to get rid of it. Is it not hypocritical to look down upon strippers and porn stars, call them sluts, and then get off watching them "work"?
