UK women's organization "I Did Not Ask For It" wants your clothes!

washingline.jpgA straw poll of the women in the Shiny office revealed that out of eleven of us, four have been groped by strangers. Not to mention those of us who've witnessed men masturbating near us, flashing us, or even just the countless idiotic chat-up lines you'll inevitably hear in your lifetime.

The London Feminist Network have launched a new campaign which asks you to send in the item of clothing you were wearing when you got groped for it to be displayed as part of an exhibition. The aim of "I Did Not Ask For It" is to show through the variety of clothes that the fault lies with the groper, and not with the gropee. They also ask you to write, embroider or paint the words "I Did Not Ask For It" and you can add as many other messages as you want which is a bit of a shame as it feels a bit second wave cliché and takes away from the message of the exhibition. It's a good cause but I feel a little too attached to my clothes to volunteer sending my jeans off. The women at the London Feminist Network are working on getting a PO Box for you to send your clothing to see keep checking back at their site for details.
