Okay, so it's not really called a femibeach but I really wish it was. Beach no134 on the Adriatic coast of Italy has a sign featuring a macho man covered by a pink cross with "No Men". This is by no means the first women-only beach on the coast, however, it is the first dedicated to fun. It features pedicures, manicures, healthy food, female beach DJs, and is obviously more of a pampering resort than the femibeaches for Muslim women along the same stretch of coast.
However, it's main features is that women can relax unperturbed by the attentions of men. I must admit in the swimming ponds in Hampstead Heath (my version of Rimini!) it is much nicer in the women only area. There's a camaraderie in the ponds that verges on some kind of "spirit of the Blitz" and it's almost as if the women are all thinking "Well, they're barely any men here, so we'd better jolly well get on with this swimming lark!"
It's a shame that we have to resort to segregation so that women can feel relaxed, and in any case the owner of beach 134 is employing a bloke as a lifeguard which sort of defeats the point: "The lifeguard must be a man. You clearly need a man to save women in the sea. It’s a question of muscles." Great so not only do we have to be have special beaches to sunbathe in peace we can only do so while being patronized?
