"Buck's Bill" to make the snatching and selling of lost pets illegal
If you're a pet owner or animal lover, you know there is no worse feeling than losing your pet. We micro-chip our puppies and kittens, and freak out in the middle of the night, "Did you shut the back gate? I think I left it open. Did you shut it? DID YOU?" However, what's scarier than your dog getting out the back gate, is that there's a chance the person who finds your dog, may not be so keen on returning her. There are some very scary people out there called "Class B" animal dealers, who round up about 18,000 dogs and cats at flea markets and from free-to-good-home ads, and even lost pets they find, and then sell them to laboratories and university research labs. Thankfully, the US congress now has proposed a bill that will make it illegal for "Class B" dealers to sell "random source" cats and dogs to research labs. The ban is called "Buck's Bill" named after a black hound dog seized in 2003 in Oklahoma from a dealer. I'm glad to hear about this bill, but at the same time I feel like an ignorant buffoon because I didn't know that cats and dogs were used in RESEARCH LABS. Wtf is that about?
