Big Brother held responsible by Ofcom for Shilpa Shetty race row

shilpa.JPGWhile the UK prepares for the next Big Brother season, Channel 4 has just received a big smack in the cheek from Ofcom. Osfom claims that Channel 4's big bosses are in breech of their regulatory code of conduct for allowing the racist comments to be made about Shilpa Shetty on last season's Celebrity Big Brother. Even worse for Channel 4, Ofcom found unseen footage of Jo O'meara, Danielle Lloyd, Jack Tweed, and Jade Goody making up limericks using racial slurs about Shilpa.

The unseen footage, coupled with the footage of Lloyd telling Shilpa to "F*** off home", Jo criticizing Indian eating and cooking habits, and Jade Goody calling her "Shilpa Poppodom" has caused Osfom to rule the way they did. To which I say, damn f***ing right. Shilpa was bullied in that house, and there were so many racist remarks made, I think Channel 4 should be held accountable.

What concerns me, is that some commenters on The Sun's story about this, claim that this is ridiculous, and that it's a reality TV show so people shouldn't be censored or edited, as then "what the hell is the point". Reality show or not, human beings should not be subjected to racist, sexist, or any form of bullying, and especially not for other people's entertainment, or financial gain. It shocks me that some people still think that everyone is just over reacting about how Shilpa was treated.

Perhaps this might refresh your memory:
