-A bill to legalize abortion is expected to pass in Mexico City in the next few weeks. This would make this city one of the largest entities in Latin America to break with a long tradition of women resorting to illegal clinics. Go Mexico![The New York Times]
-A mother from Michigan was arrested in a sting operation for taking her seven-year-old daughter to a hotel to have pornographic pictures taken of her. [CNN]
-After Anne Hathaway portrayed Jane Austen in Becoming Jane, publishers are now altering Jane Austen's image to help increase sales...hair extensions and all. Sigh. [The Guardian]
-A new set of mammogram guidelines for women in the US have been released today by the American College For Physicians. They claim that mammography screening decisions for women 40 to 49 should be made on a case-by-case basis. Amen! [Fox News]
-From 2009, expectant mothers in the United Kingdom will be able to choose whether they go to a hospital, a midwife-led unit or stay at home to have their children delivered. [BBC News]
I'll be interested to see how mums having twins and triplets are mentioned in this new era of home births - there are some supporters but I wouldn't fancy it (But then I suppose there's not that much to fancy about giving birth to two or three kids at the same time in hospital either!)
