This season's instalment of The Bachelor is apparently painful to watch, as CNN have written a piece called "What does 'The Bachelor' say about women?" I have to confess that I've not seen any of this season's episodes (or the last 10, probably) but from watching the viewers reactions on YouTube, and reading the episode guides, I don't think I'm missing much. CNN wonders about the women's cattiness, and talks to TV historians and Bachelorettes from prior seasons about the cut-throat nature of the show. They also examine how the show amplifies the societal views that "a girl can't be happy unless she's on the arm of a special someone" and to "hurry up" and get married because "the clock is ticking".

I hate to use the word "Duh"...but, DUH! What does this say about women? It says that some of us are still so desperate for marriage that we'll embarrass ourselves by going on a crap TV show and competing for an engagement ring from some rich guy with nice teeth that's dating 15 other women at the same time. Never mind that realistically, if they do win, all they'll get is a couple US Weekly covers, a few segments on Extra! and maybe a 3 month long engagement, before they realize that it's practically impossible to fall in love with someone in 6 weeks on a freaking television show. What does it say about women? I guess that some of us are desperate, bitchy, catty, competitive, and will do anything for "love". Sad, but obviously true. (On a side note, has anyone else noticed how absolutely cheesy this guy looks? He looks like a weather man.)
